On Spider-Man

remaking spider-man is insane to me

Tommaso:

me:

i wish they had cast donald glover

doing a black Peter Parker would at least have made it feel different

Tommaso:

right

me:

like there was some reason, however flimsy, to go through the motions again

Tommaso:

nope

me:

as ridiculous as the repeated superman/hulk failures are, at least they were failures

you get why, in theory, they imagine they can "get it right"

Tommaso:

true

me:

but Spider-Man is so transparently "we're addicted to money and we can't stop making these!!"

and rebooting the story?

are we going to him get bitten by a spider again?

Tommaso:

yeah

It reminds me of the key to weird al's fame

not that his songs aren't funny

but it's like

"hey, you like these songs?"

"what if you could listen to them for the first time... again!?'

but they're all weird

me:

but this would be like, here's another parody song about food... and it's STILL a parody of Michael Jackson's "Bad"

Tommaso:

right

me:

Wait, so how's it different

Well, it has slightly different fat jokes in it

Tommaso:

right

me:

"Why make movies that are sort of like successful movies, when we can just make the exact same successful movie? And why wait a long time, when we can do it right away?"
